Dogecoin is a cryptocurrency created by Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer in December 2013 as satire on the wild speculation in cryptocurrencies at the time. It is considered the first "meme coin" but Dogecoin’s developers take its users seriously and have made significant design changes since its introduction.

Dogecoin features the face of the Shiba Inu dog from the doge meme as its logo. With the help of Reddit, the project became an instant hit establishing a dedicated blog and forum reaching a market cap of $8 million within weeks of its launch.

Dogecoin has an enthusiastic fan base and active online community. The cryptocurrency is used primarily for tipping online content creators on Reddit and Twitter, and for crowdfunding efforts. Dogecoin has maintained its relevance by offering users low transaction fees, quicker transaction time and unlimited supply.
